Sleeping Cat and Creeping Mouse

We bought this mouse pad more than twenty years ago in a museum, when desk top computers were in their heydays. Fancy mouse pads were everywhere, just like the cell phone cases nowadays. Sometime ago this mouse pad has retired, and been used as a mat for a pot of orchid. We have almost forgotten it. As the proverb goes: out of sight, out of mind. We rediscover it in Cats in Art, a book we bought recently in a trip to New York. Ah, it is famous! When digging deeper in history, we learn its creator is Cornelis Visscher, a Dutch etcher who made famous prints in the mid-17th century. Aside from the name cat we gave him, it has been named Cat Sleeping, The Big Cat, The Large Cat, and as the image suggests: Sleeping Cat and Creeping Mouse.
